Open Source horticultural robots

So it seems to me robotics is interesting in agriculture where the following conditions are met

  • Uses power generated on site
  • Reduces fossil fuel use
  • Designs are opensource

I think the best way of reducing weeds is to use mulch, either compost, or a long lasting aluminium mulch

Which in a small horticultural setting basically leaves sowing and harvesting.

It seems like with regular crop spacing a robot arm on rails should be able to achieve this.

I’d like to play with a Uarm on a basic robot chassis to see what it could do

It seems that positioning is one of the hardest things, so if each bed has some ‘rail’ running down the middle, then it simplifies the whole thing.
